Skaiste Klaniute
Is an artistic director who brings music, visuals, and performance into unconventional spaces and takes a practical approach in order to create unique audience experiences. She advocates and encourages versatility that aims to defy the compartmentalization of art, curating new works through an organic collaborative process that is engaging and immersive.
Her curatorial practice frequently explores the themes of time and labour. Past curatorial projects, like Escapement, looked at the rise of the clock and industrial revolution that defined the way we work and live today. Although these standards are in constant flux there is still the underlying dominator of time, control and uncertainty in the work sector and lifestyle traditions.
Her own artistic practice often finds inspiration in the natural world. She strives to encapsulate scientific research in order to meditate on and express humanity, existence, and substance. The sketches explore the natural phenomena of chemical reactions, mark making, and physicality of medium. There is method in the chaos of free form.
She currently focuses on lens based media, primarily photography and videography, which investigates mythology, folklore, human nature and our connection with the environment.
